Council of Advisers to Review ICT Act for Possible AL Trial This Evening

The Council of Advisers will convene a special meeting tonight at 8:00 pm at the State Guest House Jamuna, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, to discuss draft amendments to the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, aimed at enabling the trial of the Awami League as a political party for alleged crimes against humanity.
A senior interim government official told UNB, “The meeting will focus solely on the ICT Act amendments, with no other issues on the agenda.”
On Friday, the government announced plans to urgently revise the Act to include provisions for prosecuting associations and political parties linked to such crimes, signalling a targeted move against the Awami League’s alleged role in past atrocities.
National Citizen Party (NCP) and some other political parties and organisations began demonstration in Dhaka's Shahbag ahead of a mass rally demanding a ban on the Awami League (AL), which was ousted from power in August last year.
