Pierce Brosnan has joined Chris Hemsworth in the cast of Netflix's upcoming action film “Extraction 3”, the latest instalment in the streaming platform's action franchise.

Brosnan is among five new additions to the film, alongside Don Lee, Joe Taslim, Chi Lewis-Parry and Siena Agudong. The roles of the newly announced cast members are being kept under wraps, as is the film's plot.

“Extraction 3” is currently filming in Australia. Hemsworth will return as Australian mercenary Tyler Rake, with Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani also set to reprise their roles in the franchise.

The “Extraction” films are based on the graphic novel “Ciudad” by Ande Parks and illustrator Fernando León González. The franchise follows Tyler Rake as he undertakes high-stakes rescue missions around the world.

Sam Hargrave, who directed the first two films, is returning to direct the third instalment. David Weil has written the screenplay based on a story by Parks, Joe Russo and Anthony Russo.

The film is produced by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco and Ari Costa for AGBO, alongside Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson for Wild State, Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter and Peter Schwerin. Shelby Malone and Steven V Scavelli are executive producers.

Brosnan, a two-time Golden Globe nominee, was most recently seen in Netflix's “The Thursday Murder Club” and Paramount+'s “MobLand”.

Lee is known for South Korean films including “Train to Busan” and “The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil”. He also stars in the upcoming Korean-language “Tygo”, another entry in the franchise centred on his character, a former child soldier turned mercenary.

Taslim, known for “The Raid”, “Train to Busan” and the “Mortal Kombat” films, has also appeared in the crime drama series “Warrior”.

Lewis-Parry, a former professional mixed martial artist, played the antagonist Samson in Danny Boyle's “28 Years Later” and its sequel, “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple”. His other recent credits include “Gladiator II” and “The Running Man”.

Agudong, who stars in Tubi's “Sidelined” film franchise, is also set to appear in Amazon's upcoming series adaptation of Stephen King's “Carrie”.
