Fifth Clause of July Charter Amended to Reflect July Warriors’ Demands: Ali Riaz
National Consensus Commission Vice-President Professor Ali Riaz today said the fifth clause of the "July National Charter 2025" has been amended following yesterday's discussions with the July warriors and consultations with political parties. "The amendment reflected the demands of the July warriors, incorporating the necessary and urgent changes," he said. Professor Ali Riaz made the remarks to the demonstrating July warriors at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the capital, said a press release issued by the Commission today.
Commission members Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar and Dr Md Ayub Miah, and Monir Haydar, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser were present. During the event, Ali Riaz read out the amended text of the fifth clause of the charter, which states: "It will ensure justice for those who were victims of disappearances, killed, and tortured during the 16-year democratic struggle against Awami fascism in pre-mass uprising Bangladesh, as well as for all killings committed during the July-August 2024 mass uprising by members of the fascist Awami League and its allied law enforcement agencies."
It reads, "State honors will be conferred to the martyrs and recognize their families, alongside and declaring the injured of July as state heroes. Appropriate assistance will be provided to the injured July warriors, including monthly allowances, proper medical treatment, and rehabilitation. It will also ensure legal indemnity, protection of fundamental rights, and security for the families of martyrs and the injured July warriors." The vice-president said that the Commission would present the amended commitment to the government in a clear and specific manner. He also commented that there was no difference of opinion between the political parties and the Commission on this issue. The "July National Charter 2025" is scheduled to be signed at 4pm today at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the presence of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
