Inaugural WBPL to begin from April 4

The inaugural edition of the Women's Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL) T20 is all set to start on April 4, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) approved the date after a Board of Directors meeting on Sunday. The board revealed that the first edition of the tournament will be held from April 4-14 with matches scheduled in Dhaka and Chattogram. The WBPL will mark Bangladesh's first-ever franchise-based Twenty20 competition for women. The opening edition will feature three franchise teams, bringing together leading national cricketers alongside emerging talents.

Local players will be selected through a player draft system. Franchises will also be permitted to sign overseas professional players, providing an opportunity for international participation, global exposure and enhancement of the tournament's competitive standard. The WBPL Governing Council will be chaired by Rubaba Dowla, BCB Director and Chairperson of the BCB Women's Wing. The Council will oversee all organisational matters relating to the tournament.
