Manpower crisis hits Bhurungamari land offices

Manpower crisis has hit Bhurungamari Upazila and Union land offices in the district as 32 important posts are lying vacant there.

In Char Bhurungamari Union, the land owners can’t pay land tax due to the absence of a Sub-Assistant Land Officer and Assistant Land Officer in the union for 4 months. This has caused great suffering to the local people.

It is known that the number of posts sanctioned in the upazila and union land offices is 56. Against the posts, only 24 are working and the number of vacant posts is 32. Although 2 outsiders have been appointed on the master roll in the Upazila Land Office, due to lack of necessary manpower, the local people are not getting the desired services despite visiting the office for months. On the other hand, against the 10 union land assistant officers, there are only 4 employees in the 10 unions of the upazila. The Char Bhurungamari Union land office has been closed for 4 months. Local people are unable to sell their land for urgent needs as they are can’t pay rent and do mutation.

Shahjalal and Maidul Islam of Char Bhurungamari Union said, “We have been going around for about 2 months for mutation but we can’t do it due to the absence of a Tehsildar (Union Land Assistant Officer).”

Char Bhurungamari UP Chairman Manik Uddin said, “People are facing a lot of harassment due to the absence of a Tehsildar. The government is being deprived of revenue. People can’t sell their land. They are also coming to me. But there is nothing I can do.”

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Golam Ferdous said, “I do not have the authority to appoint people to lower posts. The higher authorities have been informed about this.”
