Murder case accused beaten, handed over to police

After giving a mass beating, locals have handed over Helal Uddin to the police, an accused in the murder of expatriate Habibullah, in Gangdhowarchar Village of Pakundia Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

At that time, the police went to the spot, rescued him, and admitted him to the Pakundia Upazila Health Complex.

It is known that Helal Uddin went to a local Gram Police member’s house in the morning and started talking about the murder. At that time, the villagers gathered and beat him up. In a video clip that went viral on social media, Helal Mia took refuge in a cowshed after being attacked.

Pakundia Police Station Investigation Officer Mobarak Hossain confirmed the matter.

It is worth mentioning that about two months ago, Sattar, the school-going son of Habibullah’s elder brother Amanullah, had a brawl with Zubayer, the son of Helal Uddin of the same village. The incident led to a conflict between the two families. Despite several rounds of arbitration, the matter was not resolved. Ever since Habibullah returned from abroad, Helal’s family had been threatening him in various ways. On Friday, when he left home for Juma prayers and reached the Eidgah ground, Helal’s nephew Mukhles blocked his path and stopped him. Then, Helal, who had been waiting for him, and some others attacked Habibullah with sticks and rods, leaving him seriously injured. Later, locals took him to the emergency department of Pakundia Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared him dead.
