Nakla Press Club promotes planting of medicinal trees

To help protect natural medicine and reduce the use of harmful chemicals, the Nakla Press Club in the district has started a special project to plant and preserve medicinal trees.

On Friday and Saturday, the club gave out five cuttings of herbal plant called Padma Gulonch (Tinospora cordifolia) to 10 plant lovers from different unions in Nakla Upazila. These cuttings were meant to be planted around their homes.

At a meeting on Saturday, club members also decided that each of them will plant at least one tree such as Amlaki, Haritaki, Bahera and Neem in their home yards during the rainy season. They also planned to grow herbs like Tulsi, Mint (Pudina), Bashok and Gulonch. The club aims to give out more medicinal plants to 100 people in Nakla.

The distribution ceremony was held in front of the Nakla Press Club President Md Musharaf Hossain’s house in Nakla Town. People from Baneshwardi, Urfa, Chandrakona and Pathakata unions came to collect the plants. Other club members including Delwar Hossain, Fazle Rabbi Rajon and Selim Reza were also present.

Earlier, the press club took another step to protect nature by planting a rare herbal vine called Swarnalata along the road from Nakla to the Nakugaon land port. These vines have now started growing well and attract people’s attention.

President Md Musharaf Hossain said, “As more people get sick, many take chemical medicine, which can harm the body. But plants with natural healing power can help us without side effects. That’s why we are trying to protect these trees.”

Local herbal expert Jahangir Hossain Ahmed said, “Gulonch is a strong herbal plant. It can help cure fever, diabetes, skin problems, joint pain, jaundice, arthritis, anemia and even snakebites, liver issues and more. It helps the body’s nerves, blood and digestion and even protects against snakebites. The plant boosts immunity, improves digestion, and supports nervous and cardiovascular health.”
