India win toss, elect to bat in first Sri Lanka Test

India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat in the first cricket Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Saturday.

The tourists picked three left-arm spinners and two fast bowlers in Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna for India's 600th Test match.

Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar form the spin attack.

Sri Lanka handed a Test debut to 25-year-old off-spinner Keshara Nuwantha.

Galle International Stadium is hosting its 50th Test match, becoming the first ground in Asia to achieve the milestone.
