Jamaat protests BNP’s allegations in Raiganj

In protest against BNP’s false, fabricated and baseless allegations, the Raiganj Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami held a counter-press conference at the Dhangara party office in the upazila on Sunday afternoon.
In his written statement, Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Md Ali Mortuza said, “As part of a pre-scheduled programme, we reached Naogaon Shah Sharif Jindani Mazar Mosque to offer Friday prayers. When some BNP MP candidates, leaders and activists arrived there with a motorcycle showdown, we welcomed them. At the request of the Imam, Jamaat candidate for Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash) Constituency Dr Muhammad Abdus Samad delivered the sermon and led the prayer. Later, the BNP leaders and activists who arrived tried to heat up the atmosphere by chanting slogans, which created discomfort among ordinary worshippers. We came to know that a special group tried to mislead by using the slogan of Jamaat’s symbol in the name of a member of the Central BNP standing committee. No Jamaat-e-Islami leaders or activists chanted any slogans or held any processions there.”
He also said, “We clearly state that Jamaat-e-Islami is working relentlessly to build a prosperous Bangladesh by keeping the spirit of the July Movement. We do not have any Awami rehabilitation project. We think that an attempt has been made to divert a normal, cordial event into a different sector at the BNP press conference in Raiganj. We call on BNP leaders to maintain political etiquette and avoid misleading statements.”
At that time, Raiganj Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Naib-e-Ameer Md Abul Kalam Biswas, Secretary Dr Md Munsur Ali, Raiganj Municipality former mayor Mosharraf Hossain Akand, Upazila Sramik Kalyan Federation President Dr Kamrul Islam and General Secretary Sumon Ahmed were present.
