10 hurt in group clash in Rajshahi Nursing College

At least 10 people were injured in an attack, counter-attack and beating between the two sides of BSc in Nursing and Diploma in Nursing at Rajshahi Nursing College on Tuesday afternoon.
Those concerned said that the students of BSC and Diploma in Nursing have been protesting under different banners for various demands, including the appointment of qualified teachers. The incident occurred due to a verbal altercation at one stage of the discussion on those demands.
Eyewitnesses said that the students of BSc in Nursing and Diploma in Nursing have recently been protesting under different banners for various demands. In continuation of this, some students of Diploma in Nursing of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) went to a meeting in the Rajshahi Nursing College auditorium on Tuesday afternoon where they misbehaved with the students of BSc n Nursing. Diploma students of RMCH took positions at the gate, and the BSc students closed the college gate and took positions inside. At that time, Diploma students tried to break the gate. Police arrived at the scene after receiving the information when the gate was broken in the police presence. Brick-throwing between the BSc and the Diploma in Nursing students began, leaving at least 10 people injured. Several female students alleged that they were subjected to harassment in addition to beating.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Boalia Zone Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Hafizur Rahman said, “Senior officials of RMCH visited the scene to defuse the tension. Additional police have been deployed. The injured are undergoing treatment at RMCH. Later, the army came to the scene.”
