Allegations Raised Against Uttara Bank Over Planned Auction of Disputed Mirpur tolarbag Land Amid Ongoing Court Cases
Allegations have been raised against Uttara Bank for allegedly proceeding with the auction of a disputed 12-katha plot of land in the Tolarbag area of Mirpur, despite the property being the subject of multiple ongoing court cases.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the bank has already published a public auction notice in a national newspaper, prompting concerns among the parties involved in the legal dispute.
The land is currently under litigation in two separate civil cases: Title Suit No. 213/2017, pending before the Second Joint District Judge’s Court, and Title Suit No. 128/2017, pending before the Fourth District Judge’s Court. The ownership and legal status of the property remain under judicial consideration.
Sources further stated that in an earlier case filed by Uttara Bank against the occupants of the land, the court ruled in favour of the occupants on April 30. The case was registered as Case No. 81(9)/2015. Following that judgment, questions have been raised over the bank’s decision to initiate an auction process while related legal proceedings remain unresolved.
The disputed property has reportedly been the subject of litigation for nearly three decades. Individuals connected with the dispute have alleged that certain dishonest officials of Uttara Bank are attempting to dispose of the property through a secretive auction process without awaiting the final outcome of the pending court cases.
The complainants argue that proceeding with the auction before the disposal of the ongoing cases could complicate the legal process and potentially prejudice the rights of the parties involved.
Attempts were made to obtain comments from Uttara Bank regarding the allegations. However, no official response was received by the time this report went to press. The bank’s statement will be published if and when it becomes available.
Legal experts say that transactions involving properties under active judicial proceedings should be conducted in accordance with applicable laws and any relevant court orders. They note that actions affecting disputed properties before the conclusion of litigation may give rise to further legal complications.
