BGB Protests BSF Push-In at Kurigram Border

Tension has erupted between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) following an incident involving the attempted push-in of 14 individuals at the Boraibari border in Rowmari upazila of Kurigram. The incident occurred around 4:00 am on Tuesday (May 27) near the 1067 border pillar in the no-man’s-land area.
According to local sources, several rounds of gunfire were exchanged following the incident. However, the BGB has denied any exchange of fire. It was reported that BGB members from the Boraibari camp, with the support of local residents, took a firm position to prevent the push-in.
Multiple local sources stated that the BSF attempted to illegally push in 14 individuals—nine men and five women—through the Boraibari border around 4:00 am. Upon noticing the attempt, BGB personnel intervened, leading to heightened tension between the two border forces. Although the BGB called for a flag meeting in response, the BSF reportedly did not respond.
As of 8:30 am, the 14 individuals were still reportedly in the no-man’s-land. Preliminary reports suggest they are residents of India’s Bandarban district.
Local residents, including Khorshed Alam, Moyzuddin, and Nurul Haque, said they saw BSF personnel trying to forcibly push the individuals into Bangladesh, which the BGB resisted. They added that the BSF fired four rounds around 6:00 am during the standoff. The situation remains tense but under control.
Meanwhile, Acting Adjutant and Assistant Director of the Jamalpur Battalion-35 BGB, Shamsul Haque, said the BGB obstructed the illegal push-in attempt. He stated that the nationality of the individuals is still unconfirmed and they remain in the no-man’s-land. He also denied reports of gunfire. Senior officials have arrived at the location to assess the situation.
