In Sherpur, Bogura, a Tecno ‘Camon 16’ mobile phone exploded, narrowly preventing a serious accident for the wife of a journalist. The incident occurred on Monday (November 17) around noon at the home of Bandhan Karmakar Krishna, Sherpur correspondent for Kalbela and Ananda TV. The explosion damaged parts of the bed and the bedsheet.

Journalist Bandhan Karmakar said he had been using the phone for news collection for a long time. He explained that his wife had left the phone on the bed while it was charging. About 20 minutes later, the phone suddenly exploded with a loud bang and caught fire, burning a large part of the bed and the bedsheet. Fortunately, his wife was in the room and narrowly escaped a major accident.

After the incident, he posted photos and a detailed account of the exploded phone on his Facebook account. The post quickly went viral on social media, catching the attention of Tecno Mobile. The company later contacted Bandhan, collected the exploded device, and provided him with a brand-new mobile phone as a replacement.

Expressing gratitude on Facebook, Bandhan Karmakar wrote, “Yesterday, my mobile phone suddenly exploded while charging and caught fire. After posting about the incident on Facebook, Tecno collected the exploded phone and gifted me a new one. Many thanks to the authorities at Tecno—special thanks to fellow media personnel.”

A similar incident had occurred earlier in Kurigram. On October 16, a Tecno Spark 40 Pro exploded in the pocket of a young man, Palash Islam, in Bhogdanga, Kurigram Sadar Upazila, causing burns. According to local sources, Palash and his brother were outside on personal errands when the phone in his brother’s pocket overheated and exploded. Flames touched Palash’s thigh, injuring him, and locals rescued him and provided medical care.

These consecutive incidents have caused renewed concern among Tecno users. Experts say risky habits such as placing phones on the bed while charging, continuing to use phones even when overheating, or using counterfeit chargers increase the risk of such accidents. They advise following proper safety practices when using mobile phones.

Attempts to contact the PR agency responsible for Tecno for comments went unanswered.
