The Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) today organised a workshop highlighting the need to address systemic risks and restore depositors' confidence to stabilize the country's banking sector.

Titled "Systemic Risk and Restoring Depositors' Trust for Stabilization of the Banking Sector of Bangladesh", the workshop was held at the BIBM campus in Mirpur, as part of the institute's conference programme, said a press release.

Chairman of the BIBM Executive Committee and Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman attended the event as the chief guest and inaugurated the workshop.

Professor of BIBM and Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee Dr. Prashanta Kumar Banerjee delivered the welcome address.

Former Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh, former chairman of Sonali Bank PLC and former finance secretary Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury led the technical session as the distinguished session leader.

He discussed vulnerabilities facing the country's banking sector and measures needed to restore depositors' confidence and strengthen stability in the financial system.

The session was followed by an interactive question-and-answer segment, allowing participants to exchange views on the challenges facing the banking sector and possible ways to address them.

Dr. Md. Ezazul Islam, director general of BIBM, chaired the session and delivered the closing remarks while BIBM Professor Dr. Ashraf Al Mamun offered the vote of thanks.

The workshop brought together policymakers, senior bankers, academics and researchers to discuss systemic risks, depositor confidence and ways to strengthen the resilience of Bangladesh's financial system.
