Case filed over widow’s rape in Lohagara

Although a case was filed against one Zahir Sheikh, 35, the son of Tulu Sheikh of Telkara Madhyapara Village in Kotakol Union of Lohagara Upazila of the district with Lohagara Police Station on Tuesday night by a widow, 45, on charges of raping her early Tuesday, the police could not arrest the accused Zahir.

According to the police and the case report, a man named Zahir Sheikh had been making inappropriate proposals to the widow for a long time. When she did not agree to his inappropriate proposals, he broke the door of the woman’s house and raped her at 2 am on Tuesday.

After that, when the locals came to know about the incident, they tried to mediate and resolve the matter but failed. At one stage, when the incident became known to the entire area, the victim filed a rape case with Lohagara Police Station, accusing Zahir Sheikh. However, the accused has been absconding since the incident.

Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shariful Islam confirmed the case and said that efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
