The roads of different markets in Dumuria Upazila of the district become muddy and waterlogged after a little rain. The public suffering reaches its peak due to the waterlogging and muddy roads. Especially, the condition of the Kather Pole road near the Dumuria Thana road is pitiful, where walking has become difficult.

Thousands of people travel to these markets every day and face the same suffering. Even with a little rain, water accumulates in the low-lying parts of the road. Due to the lack of proper drainage system, that water remains for a long time, creating mud and stench.

Local resident Gazi Sohel Ahmed said, “Coming to the market now means a battle with mud. Walking on the Thana road is miserable. Many people take off their shoes and walk, many fall.”

Van puller Raja Mia said, “Pulling a van on this road is now a risky job. Passengers do not want to get on.”

Expressing anger, the market traders said that buyers do not want to come to the shops, which is affecting sales.

Local public representatives said that the roads need improvement and the matter has been reported to the authorities several times. However, no effective action has been taken yet.

Several pedestrians including locals Shafiqul Islam, Rahim Sheikh and Masud Rana said, “It is completely unsuitable to move around in the markets during the monsoon season. Therefore, we demand to the concerned authorities that the defective roads of the three markets in the upazila headquarters be repaired soon.”

Trader Bijoy said, “The government gets a large amount of revenue from the markets, but these are not being developed as expected. The attention of the higher authorities is needed soon to save the traders.”

In this connection, Dumuria Upazila Engineer said, “We have noticed this condition of the roads in the markets. Arrangements for renovation and water drainage will be taken soon.”
