Visitor Entry to Secretariat Suspended Amid Ongoing Protests

The Ministry of Home Affairs has banned all types of visitors from entering the Bangladesh Secretariat. The decision was announced in a notice issued by the ministry on Monday night (May 26).

According to the notice, entry of all types of visitors to the Secretariat will remain suspended on Tuesday (May 27) due to unavoidable reasons.

Additionally, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned all rallies and gatherings in and around the Secretariat area. The directive was issued on Monday night.

As per the public notice issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner on May 10, any form of assembly, public gathering, procession, or rally is prohibited in the Bangladesh Secretariat area, the official residence of the Chief Adviser "Jamuna," and adjacent areas.

In view of the current situation and to maintain law and order, the DMP has urged all concerned to comply with the instructions.

Meanwhile, the government has issued the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, which allows the dismissal of public servants for four types of misconduct without initiating departmental proceedings—based solely on a show-cause notice. The ordinance was issued by the President on Sunday evening (May 25).

Following the approval of the draft ordinance at the Advisory Council meeting on May 22, officials and employees at the Secretariat began staging protests, demanding its withdrawal. After the ordinance was formally issued on Sunday, all employee organizations at the Secretariat jointly protested against it and announced they would continue their movement until the ordinance is repealed.
