Garbage from the traditional Ramkrishnapur Bazar in Homna Upazila of the district is being dumped on the Titas Riverbanks. Due to this, the environment and river water are being constantly polluted, and the common people are also suffering while moving around.

The pungent smell of garbage has become unbearable. However, to solve this problem, along with increasing public awareness, pedestrians are demanding legal action against environmental polluters.

On the spot, garbage from various hotels, streets, ghats and shops is seen piling up on the Titas Riverbanks that flows past the market. Even though days have passed, the garbage is rotting and mixing with the river water because these wastes are not cleaned. Due to this, the river water is also becoming toxic.

Local resident Mohammad Shawkat Ali Molla expressed his anger and said, “Once upon a time, people used to flock to the riverbank to enjoy the beauty of the Titas River. Now, it is impossible to walk along the riverbank due to the garbage. The launch ghat of this market is a traditional ghat. From here, large launches travel to different areas including Dhaka and Narayanganj. The smell of garbage is also making it difficult for ordinary people to move around.”

Local UP Chairman Md Mozammel Haque said, “There is a specific ground at Bhurbhuria Kheyaghat for dumping market waste. Even then, it is incomprehensible why people throw waste on the riverbank. However, I will look into the matter.”
