Under the Infrastructure Development Project to increase the capacity and production of existing government fish farms in the 2024-25 fiscal year, a district-level regional workshop organized by the District Fisheries Officer’s Office was held at the FIVDB conference room in Shantiganj Upazila of the district from 11 am to 2 pm on Wednesday. At the beginning of the workshop, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of the July martyrs.

Sunamganj District Fisheries Officer Md Shamsul Karim chaired the event, and Department of Fisheries, Sylhet Divisional Director Md Asadul Baki spoke as the chief guest. Department of Fisheries, Sylhet Divisional Deputy Director Md Ashrafuzzaman and Senior Assistant Director Al-Minan-Noor spoke as the special guests. The keynote address was presented by Project Manager of the Infrastructure Development Project (Phase 1) to increase the capacity and fish production of existing government fish farms Md Mashiur Rahman.

Dharmapasha Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Mahmudur Rahman moderated the programme. Among others, Shantiganj Carp Hatchery Officer Md Moniruzzaman, Sunamganj District Press Club President Latifur Rahman Raju, Sunamganj senior journalists Mohammad Shahjahan Chowdhury and Masum Helal, private hatchery owner Golam Mostafa, fish farmer Jahangir Alam, etc. The welcome speech was delivered by Sunamganj Sadar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Prashanta Dey. Various fishermen and fish farmers of the district participated in the workshop.

It was informed in the workshop that the estimated cost of the infrastructure development project to increase the capacity and production of the existing government fish farms has been estimated at Tk 371.32 crore. This four-year project will run nationwide until 2028.
