Zia’s 44th martyrdom anniv observed in Kalia

Organized by Kalia Upazila and Municipality BNP, a prayer and discussion meeting was held on the Kalia bus stand premises in Kalia Upazila of the district on Saturday on the occasion of the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
Kalia Upazila BNP President Sardar Anwar Hossain chaired the programme, and BNP leader Dr Ahmed Shafiqul Haider Parvez, chief adviser to the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, spoke as the main speaker. Former US BNP president Abdul Latif Sarat spoke virtually as the chief guest. The special speaker was Zahirul Islam Zahir, general secretary of Texas State BNP in the United States. Narail Municipality former mayor and BNP leader Zulfikar Ali Mandal, Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad Central Committee Organizing Secretary Principal Sukesh Saha Anand, Professor BM Nagib Hossain, BNP leader Rabiul Islam Sagar, Kalia Municipality BNP General Secretary Selim Reza Yusuf, and Kalia Upazila BNP Joint General Secretary Golam Kibria Mitu spoke as the special guests. Kalia Municipality BNP Vice-President Rabiul Islam Robi, Kalia Municipality former councilor S M Ikram Reza, former Krishak Dal president M Rezaul Karim, and Jubo Dal leader Rabiul Islam Sagar also spoke. Kalia Upazila Chhatra Dal former president M Mainul Islam conducted the programme. About 2,000 BNP leaders and activists from Piroli area on more than 400 motorcycles and other vehicles led by Texas State BNP General Secretary Zahirul Islam Zahir joined the prayer programme.
The speakers said, “Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman brought a revolution in agriculture. He built a poverty-free Bangladesh. Ziaur Rahman was a friend of the poor, the downtrodden and the common people. People still remember him with respect for his sacrifice for the country. Shaheed Zia was a great hero of the nation, who fought his whole life to protect the country’s independence, sovereignty and democracy.”
