Zia’s 44th martyrdom anniv observed in Shariatpur

On the occasion of the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the District BNP organized a discussion meeting and a Doa Mahfil at the Shariatpur Municipality Auditorium on Monday morning.
Shariatpur Sadar Upazila BNP President Sirajul Haque Mollah chaired the programme with former MP and District BNP General Secretary valiant freedom fighter Sardar AKM Nasir Uddin Kalu as the chief guest. District BNP Vice-Presidents Shah Mohammad Abdus Salam and BM Harun-Or Rashid, Joint General Secretary Mahbub Morshed Tipu, Shariatpur Municipality BNP President Adv Lutfar Rahman Dhali and District BNP Expatriate Welfare Affairs Secretary VP Nazmul Haque Badal spoke, among others. More than a thousand leaders and activists of six Upazila BNP units and affiliated organizations of the district participated in the programme.
In his speech as the chief guest, Sardar Nasir Uddin Kalu said, “If the great independence proclaimer, promoter of multi-party democracy and founder of BNP, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, had not been born, democracy in Bangladesh would not have been established. Embracing his ideals, BNP has established itself as the main political party in Bangladesh today. The fascist Awami League has tried for 17 long years to disintegrate and annihilate BNP. Today, in a fascist-free Bangladesh, we are now waiting for the national elections. BNP will win an absolute victory in the elections under the leadership of Tarique Rahman. It must be remembered that even though Sheikh Hasina has fled, her culprits are not sitting by idly. They are involved in various conspiracies. Therefore, all of us have to keep a vigilant eye on everything from villages to cities and work on the basis of consensus. Only then will we be able to build a Bangladesh of Shaheed Zia’s ideals.”
