Bangladesh U-20 women’s hockey team make history with win over Malaysia

Bangladesh U-20 women's hockey team ended their campaign in the Women's U-20 Junior Asia Cup Hockey tournament on a high note, beating Malaysia 2-1 in the fifth-place playoff in Hulunbuir, China, today (Saturday).

The victory earned Bangladesh fifth place in the tournament and marked a memorable achievement for the country's junior women's hockey.

Both teams played an attacking game from the outset, but neither could find the net in the first half.

Bangladesh broke the deadlock in the third quarter when captain Sharika Safa Rimon converted a penalty stroke to put her side 1-0 ahead.

Kona then doubled Bangladesh's advantage with a field goal in the fourth quarter.

Malaysia pulled one goal back late in the match, but Bangladesh maintained their composure to hold on for a historic 2-1 victory.

Bangladesh captain Sharika Safa Rimon was adjudged the player of the match for her impressive performance.

The victory came after Bangladesh produced a series of competitive performances throughout the tournament and successfully overcame Malaysia's strong defensive challenge in the playoff.

The Bangladesh Hockey Federation congratulated the players, coaches and officials on the team's notable achievement.
