5.4 magnitude earthquake jolts the country


A moderate earthquake with magnitude of 5.4 on the Richter scale jolted different parts of the country, including the capital, today. The tremor struck at 13:52:29 pm (BST). The epicentre of the earthquake was located in Asaashuni of Satkhira, which was approximately 188 km south-west from Bangladesh Meteorological Department's seismic centre in Agargaon, Dhaka, said a BMD earthquake occurrence message.

On Thursday, a light earthquake with magnitude of 4.6 jolted different parts of the country. Earlier, on February 25, a moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale also shook the country in which the epicenter of the earthquake was located in Myanmar, about 462 kilometres east of the BMD seismic centre.
