Bangladesh finish 28th at FIDE Chess Olympiad for people with disabilities

Bangladesh team for peoples with disabilities finished 28th among 41 participating teams in the FIDE Chess Olympiad for people with disabilities held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Bangladesh scored 6 points from 7 rounds to secure 28th place.

In the seventh and final round held on Thursday last, Bangladesh defeated China 3–1.

For Bangladesh, FIDE Master Syed Mahfuzur Rahman, Mohammad Obaidul Islam and Md. Aktar Hossain defeated China’s Guo Runpeng, Shi Kaiming, and Fu Xinyu respectively. Bangladesh’s Nurnahar Tonima lost to China’s En He respectively.

The members of the Bangladesh team were FIDE Master Syed Mahfuzur Rahman, Mohammad Obaidul Islam, Nurnahar Tonima and Md. Aktar Hossain.

Mohammad Farhadur Rahman Sabab served as the team’s Chief of delegation, while Md. Arifuzzaman Arif served as the non-playing captain.

International Chess Arbiter Md. Anichuzzaman Jewel was the match Arbiter for the event.

Poland became the undefeated champion with 13 points, while Cuba finished runners-up with 12 points and Uzbekistan took third place with 11 points.

A total of 41 teams participated in the seven-round Swiss-system event.
