Jashore Mother and Child Centre to become 50-bed hospital: Amit

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit today said that the Mother and Child Welfare Centre in Jashore will be gradually upgraded into a 50-bed hospital.

Speaking as the chief guest at a programme marking the inauguration of Caesarean section services at the centre, Amit said the existing 20-bed facility would first be upgraded to 30 beds and subsequently to 50 beds.

The district Family Planning Department organised the programme, chaired by Jashore Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashek Hasan.

The state minister said a nine-storey building would be constructed on the premises of the Jashore Mother and Child Welfare Centre by June 2028.

He also expressed hope that the project currently awaiting approval by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) would be approved.

Amit said the centre previously had no facilities for Caesarean operations or midwifery services. He stressed that healthcare providers must avoid providing services in a haphazard manner and ensure quality, safe and modern healthcare for the people.

Earlier, the state minister inaugurated a cleanliness drive to prevent dengue organised by Ward No. 1 unit of Jashore city BNP.

District BNP President Advocate Syed Saberul Haque Sabu and General Secretary Delwar Hossain Khan Khokon attended the programme as special guests.

Deputy Director of the district Family Planning Department Dildar Hossain delivered the welcome address.
