Masud warns action against violation of code of conduct in polls duties
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud today said if officials engaged in election duties or members of law enforcement agencies violate the code of conduct, the commission will take appropriate action through investigation. “If a complaint is serious, the commission will take it directly and take action following due process,” he told a press briefing at Nirbachan Bhaban in city’s Agargaon area.
Masud said if anyone working in election duties violates the law or shows bias, anyone may file a complaint with the Inquiry and Adjudication Committee of the Election Commission (EC). If the complaint is serious, the commission itself can take it in cognizance, he said. Upon receiving a complaint, an investigation will be conducted through the committee and appropriate action will be taken, he said.
“We believe the election environment is comparatively quite good. The commission appeals to leaders and activists of all political parties to cooperate with us in maintaining a fair and pleasant election atmosphere,” he said.
Expressing condolences over the death of Sherpur-3 constituency candidate Nuruzzaman Badol and praying for the eternal peace of his soul, he said the Election Commission (EC) has postponed the elections in Sherpur-3 (Shribordi-Jhenaigati) constituency following his death. A fresh schedule will be announced for the constituency.
