Prof. Rafiqul Islam takes charge as RAKUB chairman
In accordance with a notification of the Financial Institutions Division, Ministry of Finance, Professor (Retired) Rafiqul Islam joined as Chairman of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) today.
Rafiqul Islam is a distinguished economist, professor and writer of Bangladesh. He has made significant contributions to the field of higher education and research in the country.
His long teaching and research career in economics has established him as a respected academic personality.
Alongside academic leadership, he has also efficiently discharged duties in important administrative positions in various renowned universities and institutions, including Rajshahi University.
He started his career as a Lecturer in the Department of Economics, University of Rajshahi on 10 February 1977.
In his illustrious career, he was engaged in the teaching profession with success and reputation as a Professor and served as the Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University, Kushtia from 2004-2006.
In addition, he served as a Council Member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and as Chairman of the Association of Universities of Bangladesh, as well as a member of the Senate and Syndicate of Rajshahi University.
Mr. Rafiqul Islam was born in 1950 in the village of Telihara under Shekherkola Union of Bogura Sadar Upazila of a respectable Muslim family.
He obtained his Bachelor's (Honours) degree in 1970 and Masters degree in 1971 from the Department of Economics, University of Rajshahi.
He also obtained his MPhil degree in 1977. In his family life, he is the father of two sons and one daughter.
