Hothat Brishti gets a new chapter after 28 years

One of the most talked-about Bengali films of its time, “Hothat Brishti”, is returning to the big screen in a new avatar 28 years after its release. Titled “Abar Hothat Brishti”, the new film is set to hit cinemas on October 2.

Ahead of its release, here is a look at what has changed between the two films.

“Hothat Brishti” was released in 1998 and directed by Basu Chatterjee. The film starred Ferdous and Priyanka Trivedi in the lead roles. The new film, “Abar Hothat Brishti”, features Arian Sarwar and Radifa Narmin in the lead roles, and is directed by Kamruzzaman. The cast also includes Azad Abul Kalam, Farzana Chobi, Cristiano Tanmoy, Kayes Arzu, Mou Khan and Jhuna Chowdhury, among others.

“Hothat Brishti” featured several popular songs, including “E Jeno Hothat Brishti”, “Ekdin Shopner Din” and “Sonali Prantore”. All three songs have been retained in “Abar Hothat Brishti”.

Two new songs have also been added: “Megher Bhelay” and “Ekta Golpo Olpo Olpo”. One of the songs has been sung by Kona and Imran, while the other is performed by Liza. Both new songs have lyrics by Sudip Kumar Dip, with Emon Saha handling the composition and music arrangement.

One of the most notable changes in the new film is its shooting location. Some of the key scenes in “Hothat Brishti” were filmed in Rajasthan, India. For “Abar Hothat Brishti”, however, the production moved to Srimangal in Bangladesh.

director Kamruzzaman said, “Remaking a film like this is a huge challenge. The story remains the same, but we have told it with the present time in mind. We have not made significant changes to the film.

However, we have added two new songs alongside the original three. We also moved the shooting location from Rajasthan in India to Srimangal in Bangladesh. The rest is for the audience to decide after watching the film.”

“Hothat Brishti” made a strong impact on audiences when it premiered on Channel i on Eid-ul-Azha in 1998, following its theatrical release.

Twenty-eight years later, “Abar Hothat Brishti” revisits the story and its familiar atmosphere with a new generation of actors.

The new film has been jointly produced by Ashirbad Chalachitra and Impress Telefilm.

The original story, a new generation of performers, two new songs and a different shooting location — all eyes are now on whether “Abar Hothat Brishti” can live up to the expectations surrounding its predecessor.
