Hathaat Rastay concert to pay tribute to Kabir Suman on October 2

A special concert paying tribute to singer-songwriter Kabir Suman will take place at Butternote Jazz Cafe in Banani, Dhaka, on October 2.

Titled “Hathaat Rastay Office Ancholey”, after one of Suman’s songs, the concert will begin at 7pm. Suman himself will not attend the event.

Singer-songwriters Autumnal Moon, Rezaul Karim Limon and Nahid Hasan will perform Suman’s songs alongside their own compositions. The concert is being organised by singer-songwriter Joy Shahriar’s production house, Aajob Karkhana.

Shahriar said the programme aims to honour the singer-songwriters who have influenced the next generation of musicians.

“Among those whose songs have inspired us as singer-songwriters, Kabir Suman is one of the foremost. Alongside his songs, the artists will perform their own songs as a tribute to Kabir Suman,” he said.

Tickets are priced at Tk 700 for early-bird purchases and Tk 1,000 at the venue.

Aajob Karkhana previously organised a tribute concert for Anjan Dutt in July, with performances by Shahriar, Ahmed Hasan Sunny and Shubhra. The organisation plans to continue the series with tributes to other singer-songwriters, including Sanjeeb Choudhury, Nachiketa Chakraborty, Gautam Chattopadhyay and Maksudul Haque, according to Shahriar.

Shahriar said the series is intended to go beyond conventional cover shows, with participating singer-songwriters performing their own work alongside songs by the artists who influenced them.
