Salahuddin orders projects for fire stations in 27 upazilas, commercial hubs
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has ordered the authorities concerned to undertake separate development projects to establish fire stations in 27 upazilas that currently lack fire service facilities. “It has not been possible to set up fire stations in 27 upazilas. I have asked to take separate development projects for those alongside creating jobs,” he said. He was speaking to journalists after a meeting with officials of the Fire Service and Civil Defence at the Bangladesh Secretariat here.
Salahuddin, also a Standing Committee Member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), further directed officials to identify suitable locations for building fire stations in upazila-level commercial hubs and to ensure adequate manpower for those facilities. He noted that several upazilas across the country have gained prominence due to growing commercial activities.
Establishing fire service units in these areas would significantly expand operational coverage and strengthen protection of lives and property, he said. Responding to a query, the Home Minister said recruitment for 250 vacant posts of firefighters and drivers will be completed through the regular hiring process.
