Two arrested within 24 hours in Sheikh Ahad murder case

The Special Response Battalion (SRB) have arrested two alleged accused in the murder of Sheikh Ahad Ahmed Itu, 23, murder in Rampal, Bagerhat, within 24 hours of filing the case.

The arrested are Baki Billah Sheikh, 47, and Masum Billah Sheikh, 52, sons of Jafar Sheikh of Kismat Chanditala village in Rampal upazila, said an SRB-6 press release today.

A team of SRB-6, Sadar Company, conducted a raid in the Laripara area under Phultala police station in Khulna district around 3:30am on Tuesday and arrested the two accused.

According to the FIR, the victim's family and the accused had a longstanding dispute over fish enclosures and homestead land.

On September 20, the accused allegedly went to the brick-paved road in front of the complainant's house at Chanditala village and verbally abused them.

At one stage, Sheikh Ahad Ahmed, younger brother of the complainant, came out of the house. The accused allegedly beat him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.

He was later taken to Rampal Upazila Health Complex, where duty doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, the victim's brother, Sheikh Rahat, filed a murder case with Rampal Police Station.

The two arrested suspects were handed over to Rampal Police Station for further legal action.

Operations to arrest the other accused are continuing, an SRB press release said.
