Rajshahi University film Chirkut set for Durga Puja release

Muntashir Akib’s debut feature “Chirkut”, based on a true incident at Rajshahi University in the 1990s, will hit cinemas during the upcoming Durga Puja.

Set against the campus life of the period, the film explores youth, friendship, love, nostalgia, and the experiences surrounding the incident. Akib has written and directed the film, as well as its screenplay.

“The story of ‘Chirkut’ began with a true incident that took place at Rajshahi University in the 1990s. One of the aims of the film is to create a connection between the emotions, relationships and memories of that time and audiences of the present generation,” Akib said.

“I have tried to present the environment of that period, people’s emotions and the incident through the language of cinema so that audiences can experience that time through the film,” he added.

Recreating the Rajshahi University campus of the 1990s was a challenge, Akib said, particularly in reflecting the period’s clothing, campus environment and everyday life.

Shamol Mawla, Azijun Mim, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, Sumon Patwary, Tehzib, Abdullah Al Sentu, Shaon Ashraf, Siam Nasir, Shimul, Sadi Khan, Shamim Ahsan, Mahira Hasan and Ibrahim Sujon are among the cast.

Akib has written the story and screenplay in addition to directing the film. Its four songs feature vocals by Rehaan Rasul, Masha, Mehedi Sarkar and Snehasish Chakraborty Abhi.
