Shahe Alam calls for rapid implementation of priority projects

State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today directed the authorities concerned to rapidly implement, on a priority basis, the projects related to public-interest.

He emphasised prioritising the public interest during project initiation and implementation, as well as completing project work within the stipulated timeframes.

Shahe Alam also instructed the authorities concerned to appoint and assign the necessary number of Project Directors (PDs).

He gave these instructions during a meeting held at the Local Government Division conference room here.

The meeting focused on reviewing and approving new projects — as well as those already approved (listed in the 'Green Page') — included in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the 2026-‘27 fiscal year under the Local Government Division.

State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki was present at the meeting.

In the meeting, Shahe Alam stressed the need for keeping city canals clean and functional to mitigate water logging and improve the environment in Dhaka.

He also stressed ensuring that treated water from sewage treatment plants is released into rivers.

Speaking at the meeting, Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki said project launch and implementation must reflect the government’s plans and election pledges.

He stressed the importance of formulating long-term, effective plans that take future needs into account.

Saki said it will be possible to reduce the waste of public resources and enhance project effectiveness by clustering similar projects could minimising project duplication and overlapping.

He mentioned that supplementary projects could be undertaken if necessary to achieve the core objectives of key projects.

He also called for setting specific timelines for project implementation and conducting regular progress reviews, while he emphasised the importance of swiftly completing public-interest work by redefining project scopes, re-scoping, or merging projects as required.

Chaired by Secretary of Local Government Division Md Shahidul Hassan, the meeting was attended, among others, by Kabir Ahamad, Head of the Physical Infrastructure Division at the Planning Commission; Md Babul Miah, Head of the Agriculture, Water Resources, and Rural Institutions Division; Md Belal Hossain, Chief Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED); Md Zamanur Rahman, Chief Engineer of the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE); and Alamgir Hasin Ahmed, Chief Engineer of Dhaka WASA.
