Adilur Says Youth Lean Towards Entrepreneurship Instead of Conventional Jobs
Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan today said that the new generation is increasingly choosing entrepreneurship instead of running after jobs. "The biggest challenge for small entrepreneurs is access to finance. Bangladesh Bank (BB) must take a proactive role by providing policies, funds, and advisory support to ensure easier loan facilities for small entrepreneurs," he said. The industries adviser said these remarks while addressing the annual conference and workshop titled "BSCIC at 69: Achievements, Challenges and Prospects" held at the BSCIC Conference Hall in the capital's Tejgaon area, said a press release. Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Chairman Md. Saiful Islam chaired the event while BB Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur and Additional Secretary (Routine Duty) of the Ministry of Industries Md. Nuruzzaman also spoke.
Adilur said many industrial plots under BSCIC remain vacant, and various estates are still facing gas and electricity connection issues. To overcome bureaucratic delays, BSCIC must quickly transition to an online-based one- stop service, he added. "Those who are not entrepreneurs but received BSCIC plots earlier on political considerations - their plots will be cancelled. In post-July Revolution Bangladesh, we want to see a fully transparent, accountable, and entrepreneur-friendly BSCIC," he continued. Bangladesh Bank Governor said the volume of loans currently provided to entrepreneurs is very small despite the availability of a Taka 25,000 crore fund.
He acknowledged weaknesses in loan distribution and expressed the Bank's intention to expand loan coverage. Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur stressed that institutions like BSCIC must play a stronger role in linking entrepreneurs with markets and making online platforms more popular. Bangladesh Bank is working to enhance entrepreneurs' access to international payment systems, he added. Later, the industries adviser and Bangladesh Bank Governor visited the stalls at the BSCIC Bijoy Fair held on the ground floor of the BSCIC building and interacted with participating entrepreneurs. Earlier, BSCIC Chairman Md. Saiful Islam presented an overview of BSCIC's ongoing activities. The BSCIC Annual Conference 2025 Souvenir was also unveiled at the event. Additional Secretary Rashidul Hasan, Director General (DG) of the Bangladesh Ship Recycling Board ASM Shafiul Alam Talukder, representatives from the Planning Commission and Finance Division, and officials from different levels of BSCIC were present on the occasion.
