Charge Sheet Filed Against Hasina and 30 Others in Sabuj Murder Case
Mohammadpur police has submitted a charge sheet against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former ministers- Obaidul Quader and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and 27 others in Sabuj, a CNG-run auto rickshaw driver, Murder Case. Police submitted the charge sheet against the accused to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on November 27 last as police found prima-facie evidence against the prime accused of the murder, official sources said here today.
CNG driver Sabuj (22) was killed in the city’s Mohammadpur area during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 4 last year. Investigation Officer of the case Sub-Inspector Md Mazharul Islam of Mohammadpur Thana stated that accused Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, FIR-named accused Nurnabi Chowdhury Shayon, Sadek Khan, Salimullah Salu, Syed Noor Islam Ruston, Sheikh Mohammad Khokon, Bazlur Rahman, Azizul Haque Rana, Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, Riaz Mahmud, Muhammad Badiul Alam Badiuzzaman, Furkan Hossain, and Shahjahan Khan were prima facie found to be involved in planning the murder of Sabuj, criminal conspiracy, providing financial support, supplying firearms, giving instructions and various forms of assistance.
FIR-named accused Asif Ahmed, Tarequzzaman Rajib and later identified accused Masudur Rahman Biplob and Rasel were prima facie found responsible for the shooting and killing of Sabuj using firearms. Accused Anisur Rahman Kabul, Maruful Islam Biplob, Sentu, Monir Chowdhury, Faruk Khan Abhi, Abul Kashem alias Kashu, Selim, Ayman Wasef alias Omik, Md. Kamruzzaman Rubel and Milon Hossain were found prima facie involved in creating riots with sticks and rods at the scene and attacking unarmed students and the general public, thereby directly assisting in the killing of Sabuj.
According to the case details, on August 4, 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement, the accused opened fire using local weapons and firearms in front of Allah Karim Mosque in Mohammadpur. At that time, victim Sabuj, a CNG driver, was coming towards the mosque and was struck by bullets fired by the accused. He was taken to nearby Shikder Medical College Hospital where he died on the same day.
On September 1, 2024, Sabuj’s brother Monir Hossain filed a murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station. After investigation, on November 27 last, the IO submitted the charge sheet against Sheikh Hasina and 29 others to the court.
