Cleanliness drive launched in Lalmonirhat to prevent dengue

A cleanliness drive and awareness rally aimed at preventing mosquito-borne diseases, including dengue, was held today in the district. The initiative, led by the Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila administration, focused on educating the public about the importance of cleanliness in halting the spread of diseases. The event took place at Barabari Union in Sadar Upazila at 10 am, with Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu attending as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Dulu emphasized that mosquito-borne diseases, such as dengue, are no longer confined to urban areas like Dhaka. The disease has now spread to rural regions, making it crucial to raise awareness and implement preventive measures.  He highlighted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the government to prioritize cleanliness, ensuring there is no accumulation of garbage or stagnant water that can serve as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. "We must all take responsibility for eliminating sources of dengue and maintaining a clean environment," he said.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner HM Rakib Haider, Lalmonirhat Municipality Administrator Md. Rajib Ahsan, and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mononita Das. Following the rally, a cleanliness drive was organized, with volunteers and community members participating in cleaning different areas of Barabari union. The drive included the removal of trash, clearing of stagnant water sources, and promoting hygiene practices among residents. The Lalmonirhat administration has announced that similar campaigns will continue in the coming months to combat the spread of mosquito-borne diseases and improve public health in the region.
