Ctg range police arrest 1,080 in 24-hour special operation
Chattogram Range Police arrested 1,080 people in the past 24 hours during a special operation across the range's 11 districts.
The drive aimed to curb crimes including juvenile gang activity, mugging, extortion, terrorist acts, and drug-related offenses, according to a report released by the Range Police Office here today.
Of the arrested, 86 were held in regular cases, 83 in prior cases, 44 under Section 34 of the Police Act, four under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and 49 under Section 151 and other laws.
Another 96 were arrested on arrest warrants and 18 on conviction warrants.
In the anti-drug drive, 69 drug users were arrested in drug-related cases, and 45 drug dealers were apprehended in regular and other cases.
Mobile courts sentenced 33 people to imprisonment and imposed fines totaling Taka 6,900, while 36 drug-related cases were filed in these connections.
Police recovered 11,301 Yaba tablets, 16.937 kilograms of cannabis, 82.400 liters of illicitly distilled liquor, 250 milliliters of foreign liquor, five bottles of Scuf syrup, and 10 Tapentadol tablets.
The report also stated that 23 members of different banned organisations were arrested. Of them, 10 were nabbed from Noakhali, seven from Cumilla, three from Chattogram and one each from Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, and Khagrachhari districts.
Operations against juvenile gangs led to 723 detentions. Of these, 631 were released into the custody of their guardians after signing a bond, while legal action was taken against 92.
By district-wise, 253 "teen gang" members were detained in Chattogram, 170 in Noakhali, 119 in Chandpur, 47 in Lakshmipur, 43 in Khagrachhari, 36 in Cox's Bazar, 29 in Feni, 17 in Brahmanbaria, and nine in Rangamati.
The report stated that such special operations will continue in the public interest to curb crimes and maintain law and order of the Chattogram range.
