DSCC Conducts Eviction and Cleanliness Drive from Paltan to Golap Shah Mazar

South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched an eviction and cleanliness drive from Paltan to Golap Shah Mazar in the capital to clear roads and public walkways of illegal encroachments and ensure smooth movement for pedestrians.

The drive continued Thursday in the presence of DSCC Administrator and freedom fighter Md Abdus Salam.

Officials and employees of DSCC, along with sanitation workers, took part in the operation. Temporary structures, extensions of shops and other materials obstructing public movement on roads and footpaths were removed. Cleaning activities were also carried out in surrounding areas.

According to DSCC sources, similar drives have been conducted in different parts of the capital since Wednesday to remove encroachments from roads and pedestrian pathways.

On Wednesday, the DSCC administrator conducted a mobile court operation at Mominbagh Goli in Rajarbagh as part of an anti-encroachment and dengue prevention campaign. During the operation, authorities fined the concerned party Tk 5,000 after stagnant water was found on the ground floor of an under-construction building.

Guidelines for hawkers

During the Paltan-Golap Shah Mazar operation, Administrator Abdus Salam instructed hawkers regarding designated vending areas.

He said hawkers would not be allowed to occupy the right side of the road from Golap Shah Mazar to Kakrail. However, vending would be permitted at designated spots on the left side, provided that pedestrian movement remains unobstructed.

Earlier, on Sept 20, the DSCC administrator had also said hawkers would not be allowed to occupy roads. At the same time, he said hawkers could be accommodated in selected portions of sufficiently wide footpaths where their presence would not disrupt pedestrian movement.

Instructions on parking area

During the drive, the DSCC administrator also gave instructions to operators of the vehicle parking facility in the Muktangan area.

He directed them to remove the tin fencing surrounding the parking area and asked them to contact the city corporation with valid documents authorizing the operation of the parking facility.

The DSCC administrator has repeatedly stated that roads and footpaths are intended for public use. He has warned that businesses cannot operate by occupying roads or footpaths or by creating obstacles to public movement.

The city corporation has said such anti-encroachment operations will continue as part of efforts to keep roads and footpaths accessible and maintain a cleaner urban environment.

Among those present during recent field operations were DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Khaibar Rahman, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Mahbubur Rahman Talukder, Chief Health Officer Jahane Ferdous Binte Rahman and other officials.

The DSCC said the eviction and cleanliness campaign would continue to ensure uninterrupted public movement, keep roads and footpaths free from encroachment and improve cleanliness in the capital.

At the time of filing this report, the operation from Paltan to Golap Shah Mazar was still underway.
