Preparatory meeting held in Sherpur ahead of Durga Puja
A preparatory meeting was held here today to ensure smooth and peaceful celebration of the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja in the district.
The meeting, organised by the district administration, was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office with Sherpur Deputy Commissioner Farida Yasmin in the chair.
Superintendent of Police AKM Zahirul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shakil Ahmed, former joint convener of Sherpur district BNP Awal Chowdhury, Sadar upazila BNP joint convener Shafiul Alam Chan, municipal BNP joint convener Rabiul Islam Sajib, district Jubo Dal president Ataharul Islam and general secretary Shawkat Hossain, district Puja Udjapan Front convener Jitendra Majumder and member secretary Subrata Kumar, among others, attended the meeting.
Upazila Nirbahi Officers of the district’s five upazilas were also present.
The meeting discussed measures to control traffic congestion, ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, curb drug abuse and provide tight security at puja mandaps, among other issues.
The meeting was informed that a total of 177 puja mandaps will host Durga Puja celebrations in Sherpur district this year. Of these, 83 are in Sherpur Sadar, 40 in Nalitabari, 23 in Nakla, 18 in Jhenaigati and 13 in Sreebardi upazilas.
The five-day Durga Puja festival will begin with Maha Shasthi on October 16 and conclude with Bijoya Dashami on October 21.
