Rizwana Advocates Comprehensive Plan for Jamuna River Management
Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today stressed taking a comprehensive plan for sustainable river governance and flood control in the Jamuna River. “The Jamuna is one of the main rivers of Bangladesh which is playing an important role in the geography of Bangladesh. A comprehensive plan must be taken for sustainable river governance and flood control in the Jamuna River management,” she said.
She made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the ‘NODI Project Concluding Seminar on Pathways to Sustainable Management of the Jamuna River’ at Pani Bhaban here. Rizwana, also the adviser for environment, forest and climate change, said the shape and characteristics of the river along with the biodiversity and essential living elements must remain unchanged. She emphasised taking necessary initiatives to provide adequate water resources for Boro cultivation and mitigate salinity.
The adviser also said Japan has been a trusted friend of Bangladesh since its independence. She thanked Japan and its people for the economic and infrastructural development of Bangladesh and expressed hope for continued cooperation.
Chaired by Director General of Bangladesh Water Development Board Md Enayet Ullah, the seminar was also attended by Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Khondaker Azim Ahmed and Additional Secretary of the Planning Commission Md Enamul Haque, among others.
