Stakeholders urged to work together to develop Mitingachhari as an SDG village: Rangamati DC

Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi today called for coordinated efforts by all concerned to develop Mitingachhari in Kaptai upazila as an ‘SDG Village’, as declared by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

“Everyone, including government agencies, must work together to achieve the noble objective behind declaring Mitingachhari an SDG Village,” she said.

The deputy commissioner was speaking as the chief guest at a stakeholder consultation held at Mitingachhari SDG Village in Chandraghona union of Kaptai upazila this morning.

The Kaptai upazila administration organised the meeting to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and development activities at the local level.

Kaptai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Rayhanul Islam chaired the meeting titled “Role of Stakeholders in Localising the SDGs”.

Nazma Ashrafi said arrangements should be made to provide training to enhance the skills of villagers, reduce unemployment and make them self-reliant through loan support.

“Instead of depending solely on jobs, people should create their own employment opportunities,” she said, adding that roads and other necessary infrastructure in Mitingachhari would be developed soon.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) of Alamgir Hossain, Additional District Magistrate Nishat Sharmin, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Department and Member Secretary of the District SDG Committee Md Faridul Alam, District Council Member Uthowai Mong Marma, Kaptai Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nelly Rudra, former Kaptai Upazila Parishad Chairman Dildar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Kaptai Police Station Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan Rubel, Rangamati District BNP Vice-President Dr Rahmat Ullah and Kaptai Upazila BNP General Secretary Yasin Mamun, among others, attended the meeting.

Before the discussion, an SDG-themed documentary was screened under the initiative of the Kaptai Information Office.

It may be mentioned that three villages in the country were declared ‘SDG Villages’ on August 10 as models for local-level development in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Improving the living standards of residents, meeting their basic needs and ensuring sustainable development are among the key objectives of the initiative.
