Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained two youths in Rangunia and seized 18,890 packets of smuggled cigarettes worth Tk 8,303,400.

The dump truck used in the smuggling operation was also seized.

The detainees are Touhidul Islam (21), son of Nazim Uddin from Nishchitpur village, and Sahedur Islam Nayan (22), son of the late Mohammad Ali from Shilok village, both in Rangunia.

They were detained during a raid at around 4:00am today in the Eco-park area of the Chattogram-Kaptai Road.

Lieutenant Colonel Kawsar Mehedi, Commander of the Kaptai Battalion (BGB-41), said a search of the dump truck uncovered 17,090 packets of "Patron" cigarettes and 1,800 packets of "Oris" cigarettes. Both youths were detained at the scene, and the truck was seized.

According to the BGB, the cigarettes were smuggled in from a border area, transported across Kaptai Lake, and then moved along the Kaptai-Chattogram Road. The detainees and the seized goods have been handed over to Rangunia Police Station for legal action.

Lt. Col. Mehedi added that BGB is stepping up intelligence activities, regular patrols, and anti-smuggling operations alongside its border security work, and that these efforts will continue.
