Yunus in London: Four-Day Visit Focuses on Diplomacy and Reform


On the first day of his four-day official visit to the United Kingdom, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus attended a meeting with global aerospace giant Airbus at 12:00 noon (UK local time) on Tuesday, June 10. The meeting, held at Dr Yunus’s hotel in London, was led by Wouter van Wersch, Executive Vice President of Airbus. At 12:30pm, Dr Yunus met with a delegation from Menzies Aviation, headed by its Executive Vice President, Charles Wyley. Later in the day, the Chief Adviser is scheduled to meet with the All Party Parliamentary Group at 2:00pm, followed by a courtesy call on Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland KC at 5:00pm. Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, provided details of the itinerary. Dr Yunus arrived in London earlier that morning, landing at Heathrow Airport at 7:05 am local time aboard an Emirates Airlines flight. He had departed from Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 7:30 pm on Monday.

It has been reported that during this visit, Dr Yunus will be conferred with the prestigious 'King Charles III Harmony Award'.  The visit also aims to reinvigorate bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the UK and strengthen cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, and investment. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation including Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr Abdul Momen.
