120 Rajshahi Farmers Get Incentives for Onion Seed Production
A total of 120 small-, marginal-, and medium-scale farmers in Paba Upazila of the district have received free onion seed bulbs, fertilizers, storage containers, and other agricultural inputs to increase onion seed production. The inputs were distributed under the Agricultural Rehabilitation Assistance Program for the 2025-26 fiscal year at the Upazila Agriculture Office premises on Thursday.
Paba Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ibnul Abedin handed over the incentive packages to the selected farmers. According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, the assistance has been provided to the farmers to support winter onion seed production. Each selected farmer received 160 kilograms of onion seed bulbs, 20 kilograms of DAP fertilizer, 20 kilograms of MOP fertilizer, and one seed storage container for cultivating onion seeds on 20 decimals of land.
Speaking at the event, UNO Ibnul Abedin said that the government continues to stand by farmers in order to increase agricultural production. He noted that rehabilitation and incentive programs play an important role in addressing challenges arising from climate change, natural disasters, and market uncertainties. Increased onion seed production, he added, would benefit local farmers and positively contribute to the country's agricultural economy.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist M A Mannan said through the incentive program, farmers will have the opportunity to produce onion seeds at a lower cost, which will not only increase their income but also reduce dependence on imported onion seeds in the future. According to the Agriculture Office, a total of 1,000 farmers across Rajshahi District will receive assistance under the program.
Among others present at the event were Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, Upazila Election Officer Matiur Rahman, Upazila Fisheries Officer Waliullah Shah, Joint Convener of Paba Upazila BNP Sultan Ahmed, officials from the Agriculture Department, and local farmers.
