30-40 detained from Jasod office over suspected AL links

Police detained around 30 to 40 people from the central office of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasod) in the GPO area of the capital this afternoon, suspecting them of links to the Awami League, whos activities are banned.

Acting on a tip-off that leaders and activists of the Awami League were holding a meeting inside the Jasod office and chanting “Joy Bangla” slogans, police from Paltan Police Station conducted a drive and detained them, said Akhter Hossain, deputy commissioner of the DMP’s media wing.

“The operation is still ongoing,” he said.

The detainees were taken to Paltan Police Station. Police will verify their identities before deciding whether to arrest or release them, the DMP official said.
