All Pro-Coup Forces Must Take Visionary and Pragmatic Steps: Mahfuz Alam

Mahfuz Alam, Adviser on Information and Broadcasting, has said that "to rebuild the state anew, all forces supporting the uprising must take visionary and pragmatic steps."

He made the statement in a verified Facebook post late Monday night.

In his post, Mahfuz Alam stated, "The activities of the Awami League have been banned. But the struggle is not over yet. The cultural politics and political economy of Mujibism must be defeated."

He further added, "The social fascism created by political fascism must be eradicated. The oppressed masses must not be allowed to become oppressors themselves. Instead, we must stand for everyone's rights and justice."

Emphasizing the need for long-term strategy, he said, "To rebuild the state, all pro-uprising forces must act with foresight and realism. Ideological conflicts, electoral competition, and various tensions are natural. But for the sake of the country's independence, unity, and sovereignty, we must continue a comprehensive, people-oriented struggle—either collectively or independently—in support of the July popular uprising."

Criticizing the post-1971 political developments, Mahfuz Alam added, "Since 1971, the Awami League has hindered state-building through Mujibism and has driven the country's institutions to bankruptcy. If we fail to establish a new political settlement for state-building and strong democratic institutions in a League-free Bangladesh, history will not forgive us."
