Barishal Sees Case Filed Against 247 AL Members

A case has been filed against 247 leaders and activists of the Awami League, including paternal cousins of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The case was lodged on the night of Wednesday, May 14, at the Kotwali Model Police Station by Marzuk Abdullah, Senior Joint Member Secretary of the Barishal District unit of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
According to investigating officer SI Manik Chandra Saha, the case alleges that the accused carried out an attack following an explosion on July 26, 2024. The incident reportedly took place on the road adjacent to the Christian Missionary Charitable Organisation, located on the west side of Government Hatem Ali College in Barishal city. The case has been recorded as Case No. 37, dated May 14, 2025.
Among the accused are former Mayor of Barishal City Corporation Abul Khair Abdullah Khokon Serniabat and his wife Luna Abdullah; General Secretary of the Metropolitan Awami League and Abul Hasanat Abdullah’s elder son, Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah; former Member of Parliament Jebunnesa Afroz; and senior Awami League leader Amir Hossain Amu.
Other notable individuals named in the case include former Zilla Parishad Chairman AKM Jahangir, Gournadi Upazila Awami League General Secretary and former Municipal Mayor Harisur Rahman, District Chhatra League leader Sajjad Serniabat, former Upazila Chairman Monirul Islam Chhobi, and former Zilla Parishad member Shahidul Islam, also known as Italy Shahid.
