Cabinet committee recommends policy approval for two urea import proposals

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today recommended policy approval for two proposals to import urea fertilizer for the 2026-27 fiscal year to meet the country's growing demand for fertilizer.

The recommendation came at the committee's 30th meeting in this year held today, where two proposals from the Ministry of Industries were placed, discussed and recommended for approval.

Under the first proposal, the committee recommended policy approval for amending the existing G2G agreement with Fertiglobe Distribution Limited of the United Arab Emirates to allow the purchase of bulk granular urea fertiliser on a Cost and Freight (CFR) basis alongside the existing Free on Board (FOB) basis during fiscal 2026-27.

Under the second proposal, the committee recommended policy approval for signing an agreement to import prilled urea fertiliser from Foreign Economic Corporation Prodintorg under the G2G arrangement during the 2026-27 fiscal.

Both proposals were placed by the Ministry of Industries.
