CCGP approves import of 2.6 lakh tonnes of fertilizer
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved a series of proposals to procure and import 2.60 lakh tonnes of fertilizer to ensure uninterrupted supply to farmers during the agricultural season.
The approvals was given at the 47th meeting of the CCGP, held at the Cabinet Division in the capital, with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
A total of 19 proposals from different ministries and divisions were considered at the meeting, including seven related to fertilizer procurement under the Ministry of Industries and the Ministry of Agriculture.
Under the Ministry of Industries, the committee approved three proposals for procuring 1.10 lakh tonnes of granular urea fertilizer.
Of the total, 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea will be procured from Karnafuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO), Bangladesh, at a cost of Tk 162.39 crore. This is the third lot for the 2026-27 fiscal year, at US$438.125 per tonne, including a bagging charge of US$5.
The committee also approved the import of 40,000 tonnes, with a 10 percent variation, of bulk granular urea from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company of Saudi Arabia at a cost of Tk 228.90 crore, at US$463.17 per tonne.
Another 40,000 tonnes, with a 10 percent variation, of bulk granular urea will be imported from Fertiglobe of the United Arab Emirates at a cost of Tk 269.56 crore, at US$545 per tonne.
Under the Ministry of Agriculture, the committee approved four proposals for importing non-urea fertilizers through the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) under government-to-government (G2G) contracts.
The approvals include the import of 40,000 tonnes of triple superphosphate (TSP) in the sixth lot and another 40,000 tonnes in the seventh lot from OCP Nutrirops S.A. of Morocco. Each lot will cost Tk 433.76 crore, at US$877 per tonne.
The committee also approved the import of 30,000 tonnes of TSP in the eighth lot from the same company at a cost of Tk 247.67 crore, at US$667.67 per tonne.
In addition, 40,000 tonnes of TSP will be imported in the ninth lot from OCP Nutrirops S.A. at a cost of Tk 330.23 crore, also at US$667.67 per tonne.
The government said the procurement and import approvals are intended to maintain adequate fertilizer stocks and ensure timely supplies to farmers during the ongoing agricultural season.
