Chief Adviser Yunus hands over Purbachal land deed to Megh, son of Sagar-Runi

Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, handed over the deed of a Purbachal land plot to Mahir Sarowar Megh, the only son of slain journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
The simple ceremony took place this Thursday afternoon at the state guesthouse Jamuna in the capital, where Dr. Yunus officially presented the deed for a three-katha plot of land in Purbachal to Megh.
This initiative was taken to ensure the safe and dignified future of the child of the murdered journalist couple. The arrangement was made through the planning of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and the initiative of the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) Chairman, Engineer Md. Riazul Islam.
Among the distinguished attendees were Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan; Adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Farida Akhter; Adviser to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Adilur Rahman Khan; Adviser to the Ministry of Education Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar; Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Md. Nazrul Islam; and RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md. Riazul Islam, along with senior representatives of the government.
The guests paid deep tribute to the memory of Sagar and Runi, emphasizing that this initiative marks a significant step towards securing Megh’s future.
It may be recalled that in February 2012, journalist Sagar Sarowar and his wife Meherun Runi were brutally murdered at their residence in West Rajabazar, Dhaka. At that time, their only child, Mahir Sarowar Megh, was just five years old.
By handing over the land in Purbachal under RAJUK’s jurisdiction, this measure is being regarded as an unprecedented example of the state fulfilling its responsibility to safeguard the future of Megh.
